IELTS Speaking Topics – People

For Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking test you will be given cue cards with a topic to talk about for 1 – 2 minutes. You will be given 1 minute to prepare. After you talk, be ready to answer 1 or 2 follow-up questions from the interviewer.

The following speaking cue cards/topics are centered around describing people. Before you go into the IELTS interview, “jog” your memory about people you know so that you won’t waste too much time in trying to remember a person to talk about if asked about a person in your life.

Sample Topics:

Describe a well-known person you like or admire.

You should say:

  • who this person is
  • what this person has done
  • why this person is well-known

and explain why you admire this person.

Describe one of your friends.

You should say:

  • how you met
  • how long you have known each other
  • how you spend time together
